All about The Other Guys Movie
A film that has received positive reviews from audiences and critics alike is The Other Guys. A comedy with plenty of action starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, the movie has been a hit in movie theaters, DVD rentals, and DVD sales. The Other Guys trailer is a popular download as well.
The storyline is creative. When detectives Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) pursue a group of thugs in a car, there is a short firefight that results in Highsmith’s car getting blown into the windshield. The two crash spectacularly into the side of a double decker bus. Danson drives in after the criminals and miraculously slingshots the car out the other side of the bus. Highsmith crashes into Trump Tower, firing the whole way, inexplicably surviving. The criminals at first escape, until police backup quickly arrives on the scene and arrests them.
Police Officer Gamble (played by Will Ferrell) is a forensic accountant who is more interested in tedious paperwork than hitting the streets, but reveres Highsmith and Danson. Disgraced Officer Hoitz (played by Mark Wahlberg) has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since he shot baseball star Derek Jeter during the World Series. Hoitz and Allen therefore get no respect from other police officers. They trick Allen into firing his gun in the office, leaving him with a wooden practice gun as punishment. Terry Hoitz detests Allen’s taste in music, his singing while driving and his having a beautiful wife played by (Eva Mendes). During a pursuit of a group of professional bank robbers, Danson and Highsmith die jumping off a 20-story building onto the sidewalk, inexplicably agreeing to aim for bushes that aren’t there. The two were held out as heros by the force despite their stupid mistake.
When an opportunity arises for Hoitz and Gamble (the “other guys”) to rise to the occasion, things go seriously awry. Allen begins looking into a simple scaffolding permit code violation but winds up uncovering a much bigger plot by the wealthy businessman David Ershon to cover his company losses. As things spiral out of control, Allen and Terry are forced to separate. Allen still attempts to solve the mystery on his own, although Terry believes it’s a dead end. He finally finds admissable evidence and earns his gun back. Allen finally convinces Terry to rejoin him. They proceed to stop the criminals who are attempting to fraudulently obtain the money. Allen believes the $32 billion Ershon is trying to come up with will come from the New York Lottery Office, but he discovers it will actually come from the New York Police Department pension fund. Both officers get shot when backup finally comes, rescuing the two and neatly tying up loose ends with Ershon and Wesley. Allen and Terry believe that the true heroes are the people in all walks of life who make the world a better place to live, not the ones who show up in the news media. Ershon’s arrest precipitates a crash on Wall Street and a Fed bailout, making the plot relevant to the current news of the day. The film ends with an artistic shot of a peacock flying by the screen in reference to Terry’s earlier comment “I am a peacock, you gotta let me fly.”
